p.s. whilst i can solo some of the harder spawn as im sure several others can with more trained chars i do need pots to be able to deal with the mages that seem to be everywhere these days and giant serpents etc and since regs are hard to come by i cant gather enough to either trade for the ones to use hunting nor for the ones to grow the plants needed to breed for the few useful ones never mind both especially since most of our alchemists still have relatively low success chance on the greater's due to low regs for training so even if i gather silly amounts of regs i can burn up the potions i can trade for them a lot quicker than i can gather them and plants require greater so i have no option but to use those.

the net result is a lot of hours in game to gather the resources to be able to take out the larger foes and no practical way to gather those resources that isnt mind bogglingly boring especially for newer chars trying to get to a level to consider the harder resource gathering methods

just think we need a little more variety of spawn/areas to hunt difficulty along with a bit more loot not necessarily gold but useful items such as resources and armour.

More armour loot would allow people to use that rather than having to buy it every five min because it basically isn't worth repairing due to drastic loss in durability. i basically just scrap and remake mine every time but not everyone has that luxury so loot armour gives them something to wear whilst general hunting/training  so they can save the decent stuff for events and such.

And i still think a proper bankbox with about 12 item/pile limit in it would be a good idea as that is the first thing most new tenants at the inn ask, "I need a box" so to have a little bit of storage as soon as the char is created just allows them that little bit of leeway to keep playing until they can get somewhere sorted at the very least and they don't have to risk things like house keys going somewhere dangerous as they will be able to store them securely without which they either risk them or have to leave the keys somewhere unsecured

okay I'm back again smile loving the whole feel of the shard as it bulks out and whilst I appreciate the desire to promote interaction and group play I think it might have gone a little far now as there is practically nowhere to go solo and the reality is we still have quite a low population so are often in the position where often there is not many people online, quite a few have stated that they login check the [whosonline and log off if no one is around. they may be inclined to stay online more if there was something worthwhile to do.

This would also mean the next to log in sees their are people online so would be more inclined to stay in game too.

another side effect of this is there is no where safe for new chars to go to get up to speed so if they cant train up and no one is ever online for them to group with to train why should they stay?

It might be time to expand our fish bowl a bit and move some of the harder spawn further out and possibly a solo dungeon of some depth as well as a more comprehensive group dungeon, maybe even just stick destard or despise or something in how they were pre AoS and open up so we can get there?

I would greatly like to see this mater clarified as the militia is a civilian volunteer scheme not a trained law enforcement army and as such I am loath to see them involved in such matters without appropriate training.

We have a sheriff who's job it is to enforce the laws of this town and should he wish to request aid from the militia for one off spot situations then I have no issues with that but recently the militia seems to believe it is a sanctioned army.

This is not the case I must stress again they are a CIVILIAN MILITIA who's only remit and authority is the protection of this town in battle against outside enemies such as orcs and shamblers. They are not paid for their VOLUNTEER work and have normal jobs.

Should you the mayor wish to turn this into a law enforcement army then I must respectfully request that new militia recruits undergo a full training as an army recruit, be paid a proper wage to avoid conflicts of interest and corruption and have their duties and responsibilities laid out plainly.

Until this has been rectified in one way or another I must regretfully advise you that any militia member who comes to me for any matter of law enforcement from this point on will be turned away and sent to fetch the sheriff or his deputy who are the actual law enforcers in our town and I would advise all other citizens to do the same or risk repeats of already occurred regretfully incidents such as the MILITIA confiscating a persons funds on the assumption they belonged to a different person simply for living in the same property.

This example that has unfortunately occurred in our fine town simply highlights the militias unfitness for this role without further training and simply shows them as armed thugs trying to control this town through intimidation and I will not be intimidated!

this is why I say just a 1% increase for chance for every 10 lore, the base crafting requirement doesn't change before you can actually make the item so a newbie would still have to work at it and its an extra skill to fit in so you limit uber chars for example to fit lore on althy I have had to give up gm and lock at 75 peace, animal lore, animal taming and vet. I'd just like to see a slight increase in chance and rather than redoing all of the chances in the actually crafting menu's for all the blacksmithing tailoring bowcraft and carpentry weapons and armour I thought this way would be easier and fairer

I appreciate what your point is but there is a difference between an exception and an extreme, 5.0% is extreme and there is no way to justify the price difference I'm not saying gm should be able to make exceptional all the time but an extra 1% on success chance per 10 arms lore say would take it from stupid to expensive but worth it, it would still leave the exceptional on a plate tunic as a difficult but actually achievable 15.0% and studded tunic would become 27.0% just make it that bit more in line with the amount someone might be willing to pay for a relativity small increase in defence/offence over a non exceptional

just to highlight this when I mention I used over 2k ingots trying to make one I didn't stop because I succeeded I stopped cos I ran out of ingots I didn't actually make the item, I can make the rest of the plate suit for about 500 ish ingots give or take for none exceptional and retrying but to use four times as much as the entire rest of the suit and -still- not succeed is a little too much for me to swallow and if I include failure and retry costs a lot of my armour actually prices up as costing about 1/2 to 1/10 of a gold per ingot used when averaged out over the range and people still want lower prices, I trade resources at a loss and to make a single set of plate arms can mean more than half an hours work mining and crafting combined to sell it for the same as a baker can sell a cake or an alchemist a single bottle of potion.

I know you want everyone to not be running around in exceptional gear but if I want to sell things that's what people want if I say that due to resource cost they get the first that succeeds in crafting exceptional or not then the player goes to a smith that will make them exceptional so the choice is hours of game play resource gathering for little return which is no fun for anyone cos they are all spread out gathering resources instead of interacting or no one comes for your services unless they don't have another choice which basically makes having the skill at all pointless unless your the only crafter left of that type.

now for me personally I have been putting in a lot of hours recently so I can be around to RP and gather resources to keep my prices low so far but it seems a little harsh on people that play less frequently to not be able to compete with me just because they don't have that much time and when they are on they want to enjoy some RP not just resource gather for 2 hours to fill a single order or slog away to get enough gold for some armour that's so damn expensive compared to loot drops you might as well just sell your soul to the undead just so they can enjoy a good dungeon bust with a group without dying every five minutes.

your going to get fed up of my posts soon lol, any chance arms lore can increase success chance? at gm smithing success on platemail tunic is 50.0% exceptional is 5.0%, at gm tailor studded tunic is  success 62.0% exceptional 17.0%

I know you guys want to keep the emphasis off gm/exceptional but at these rates you need to gm just to have a chance of creating the item at anything like a reasonable cost if you want to charge other players for just standard item and exceptional plate is for showing off what you can do nothing more, I have literally burned through over 2k ingots trying to make an exceptional plate tunic and that's recycling the non exceptional to get more tries never mind trying to sell all of them!

Also though not -quite- as bad you burn through a lot on the studded tunics and since arms lore works to tell you the condition of items it makes sense IC that the more you know about arms and armour the better quality you can make them

is there please please please a change log somewhere? you guys are doing a great job evolving the shard and I know its a lot of work but I think I need a reference point lol.  I came to the orc camp today and discovered i now need a trap removal kit which is fine but i had to run off and make one and then come back, do throwing daggers use the throwing skill or a different skill? I've noticed quite a few AoS weapons in the blacksmith menu, there's quite a bit going on and i just think it would be easier if folks knew what had changed/was new

additionally what if someone gets robbed and due to RL commitments or issues cant get on for a few days so doesn't know their stuff is open? meanwhile everyone who walks by and realises that there units are open takes a bit each so when the person does come back they find their box dry? safe storage at leasts means they have some items to keep going with rather than being completely disheartened and saying smeg it to the entire shard.

I think limited safe storage is a good thing, as Craystor says, he and Derek just walked off with 1000 gold, just stop and think of the weight of gold and size of a coin then think how much 1000 of them would weight ....... as I said previously some rules for stealing from other people setting a limit to what you can steal ic due to the weight, size, bulk of items would be good but secure storage helps keep it ic and avoid the hard feelings of being screwed over for an unrealistic amount ooc

say 50 - 100 gold is approximately a gold bar and the average person would struggle to lift 2 or 3 gold bars IRL I don't think its unreasonable to say a limit of 1 or 2 hundred gold max each thief can take from each person same with ingots, boards, logs, leather i think realistic IC limits to what you can take would both help stop people feeling completely smegged due to loosing everything and stop thieves from just stealing everything they want at everyone else's expense.

personally I  would never take more than 100 gold and never take so much as to leave a char with less than 100 so if they have 50 I would pass them over if they have 150 I would take 50 if they have 200 or more I would take 100 but that's my choice as a nice person to keep the stealing IC with the 100 limit and also not take the last little bit someone has so that they cant get back on their feet

a safe, secure storage for say ten items so a pile gold ingots logs boards or whatever your char collects, regs and bottles for alchemists for example then the rest you just take the risk I guess

p.s.

this way you can secure your primary resources but if you choose to make extras i.e. shop stock then its your risk

one per char, otherwise someone with say an alchemist and a miner wouldn't be able to store all of the regs and ingots safely

I'd love to believe in the honour system but I'm often around and it says I'm the only one on-line so I'm sure I'm not the only one who has been, if no gm's on-line how do you know who just walked out with 3k bandages? or all your gold? far more than they could carry IC.

I'm not saying I think people would purposefully be nasty but some people don't know where the line is and some have different opinions where the line is, far better to avoid arguments by simply making it clear and un-breakable. You could set rules like the looting rules from europa rp guilds when inter guild fighting but what's to stop them coming back every night? people cant stay awake all night guarding their gear so sensible looting rules such as no more than 1 suit of armour so they cant take 15 which would be unrealistic say max 100 bandages due to amount to carry as well set amount of gold ingots boards leather and so on and no revisiting the same property in say the same week would go a long ways but I think there is still a need for some secure storage.

I agree with the pre aos builds restricting stupid designs and think that would be a good idea, not sure about custom builds like what you want for the workspace or i would like for the inn but id be willing to compromise for something that works, as for storage/workspace I've been trying to get the inn expanded as all the bunks(4) are now full each one with a locked box behind a locked door to the guest room since about a week and a half before the elections, the GM's simply don't have time and as you say not much fun for them so how long before your workspaces are built? how many people loosing stuff  to thieves and thus leaving the shard? maybe I'm being over paranoid but there is a reason why uo put skills in like pickpocket etc but gave people a secure bank, and later houses. No-one likes to work really hard for something just for someone else to spend five seconds stealing it and origin wisely provided opportunity for those that would like to play that way and security for those that don't.

if you just give for example Issac a house placement tool, you go and purchase a plot from him, he comes looks over the land, if he agrees with the spot he places it and transfers so IC you have bought a plot of land then you can build it IC as you get the money in instead of *poof* it magically appears one night

i think maybe we need an irc chat arranged or something so everyone can talk about these things and share opinions and concerns

also instead of having loads of empty buildings around if they were all plots then would be a lot easier to see where you can actually move in and who owns what instead of the current confusion.

and with the recent spate of crime offering people something more secure is, I believe, going to be essential to keep players.

Both myself and I'm sure Jarvis would get raided within days if not sooner if people could get through the house doors and not everyone is that lucky, bank boxes can be picked, people living out in the tents can be picked, how many times should someone loose everything they have worked hard for before they give up?

proper house plots we can design ourselves would work well as a gold sink since they cost gold to build and takes a load off the gm's with everyone wanting houses these days smile obviously they would have to conform to certain limits in keeping with the scenario like all wood walls or 90% cos of stone being rear and so forth and a gm would probably be needed to place the plot and then transfer it over to stop houses going up anywhere and everywhere and would also mean that with the rarity of gold you could have them go up a bit at a time as you got the gold in representing  the build progress

that's the one could not for the life of me remember the name lol but yeah the buff and de-buff stuff would be nice s i get messages saying I play this song or the other but have no idea who is effected, how long for and only the basic idea of what they actually do from the list so I would Imagen that most players aren't even aware the song has benefited them at all

ps an option to actually choose the song would be nice rather than random as IC you wouldn't just play an instrument and hope the song you wanted comes out lol possibly adjust the music box stuff from normal uo to actually play different music when playing different songs?
