Hello all,

Things have been going really well so far, but I think to keep up momentum, we ought to bring in some fresh blood.

If any of you have friends you're still in touch with who you think would enjoy it here, send them my way!

The damage on the Poison Strike has been reduced to less insane levels.

Undead now have access to the Blood Oath spell. To address the lack of cross-healing for undead, this spell has been re-purposed as a targeted healing spell.

You cannot use it on yourself, and when you use it on others, it grants them HP roughly equal to 30% of your spirit speak. However, you take damage equal to 1/3 of the amount that they were healed.

Blood Oath cannot take you below 10hp.

Over the next few days, you may notice an addition to zombies. These changes are intended to spur RP rather than force things on people, so please consider it a prompt for RP rather than the game coldly declaring what has happened to your character.

When hit by a zombie, you will now have a slight (~2%) chance to be savagely mauled. When this happens, you get a message that it has occurred, and others nearby get a message that they saw it. The risk of these attacks can be reduced by wearing armour, but they are difficult to eliminate entirely. Remember, zombies are dangerous not because of their strength, but because of the risk of infection.

These messages do not necessarily mean that you have been bitten/scratched, but if you have been wanting to leave the fate of your character to chance, then... here it is. We don't want to force things on characters, but we do want to create an atmosphere where zombies are recognised as the threat that brought down much of Britannian civilisation.

Hello all,

Another small update for you. Previously, the one and only still on the shard has required GM intervention every week to replace the crops with drinks.

Now, you can get quietly sloshed from the comfort of your own home! Introducing, booze barrels!

BoozeBarrels.png

Step 1: Make a barrel ( Staves x 5 / Hoops / Lid / 57.8 carpentry )

Step 2: Turn that barrel into one of four booze barrels ( Barrel / 0.0 carpentry )

Beer Barrel
Drop a sack of flour into the barrel and retrieve 5 bottles of ale.

Wine Barrel
Drop a pile of grapes into the barrel and get that many bottles of wine.

Cider Barrel
Drop a pile of apples into the barrel and get that many bottles of cider.

Liquor Barrel
Drop a sack of flour into the barrel and retrieve 5 bottles of liquor.

It appears that a great rustling has occured in both the sheep pens and the cow pasture. The animals are missing, and it's unlikely that they left of their own accord.

I recommend increased patrols of the farms for suspicious activity. We can't afford such a dent in our food supply.

Greetings, citizens of Blackwell.

For the past few weeks, I have been hard at work implementing some new features for the shard. As I'm sure you noticed, there's an apocalypse going on, and all sorts of undead nasties plagueing the shadows, waiting for their chance to take the life blood of the innocent.

More intelligent undead threats were devised primarily by GM intervention, but today I would like to open those doors to the public, and add a system whereby players can participate in the evil side of the shard. Death is no longer the end...

It should be noted that playing as a defiled is not easy, nor is it meant to be. You have several powerful advantages over players, but the system is designed such that while you pose a dire threat, as an individual minion of the Guardian, you are at a disadvantage over the forces of good. Playing as an undead should be considered hard mode.

## The Defiled

Soul corrupted, flesh stripped away, they are not what they once were. They are the defiled, and they serve only evil.

Playing as an undead allows you to provide an intelligent antagonist to the players. The actions of the defiled are guided and defined by the game mechanics, enabling more balanced and spontaneous play than can be achieved with GM interaction.

1.PNG

As undead minions, the defiled can pass peacefully among other undead minions such as zombies and ghosts. They do not tire, or feel pain, but for reasons not entirely clear, they are highly susceptible to silver.

### The Defiled Shrine

The Defiled Shrine is the centre of undead activity. The shrine is where the defiled commune with the Guardian, and where they recieve rewards for their dedication and the evil that they have wrought upon the world.

It is also where defeated undead may be brought back to un-life.

2.PNG

*double click on the shrine to pray to the Guardian*

4.PNG

### Evil

Your contributions to enacting the will of the Guardian are quantified by evil points (EP). You can gain EP through general play, by hunting animals or humans (most profitably players, or animals that are useful to humans), or you can be awarded EP through individual prowess during events led by an undead GM character. These points can be spent on a variety of rewards, as well as undead powers such as necromancy and spirit speak.

Even the undead need supplies, so EP can be gained by depositing items such as certain weapons or body parts in special resource chests.

3.PNG

### Necromancy

As an undead minion, the Guardian grants you access to powers chanelled from the life force of others. Like all things undead, these powers can be accessed once you have accumulated the EP required to be granted a book and the appropriate scroll. These are powers granted by the Guardian rather than herbalism, so they cost no reagents but instead cost EP equal to the mana cost.

### Healing

The undead have had their flesh stripped away, and their organs are decaying and torn. They cannot benefit from human healing techniques such as bandages and potions, but they can instead channel the life force of nearby corpses, or if no corpses are nearby, channel from the spirits at a cost of 10EP.

Unlike humans, undead do not have injury points, but they have a limited amount of favour from the Guardian. Fail him too many times in a short period, and he may cease to reanimate your body. Favour is lost in the same way that injury points are gained, and can be restored at the Defiled Shrine at a rate of 10EP per point. Unlike injury points, favour will not restore naturally over time. The Guardian expects you to work for the power he grants you!

The advantage to these bodily changes is that they are no longer affected by the first two levels of poison.

### Additional play guidelines for the defiled

* When defeated in PvP, you may not engage in PvP again for 6 hours.
* When defeated in PvP, your corpse is forfeit. You should return to the defiled shrine for resurrection.
* You may only attack the main portion of a settlement (e.g. within the main walls of Blackwell) once every 24 hours.

## Other Changes

A number of smaller changes have been working their way into the code while this has been in the works, and are being introduced with the same update:

* Darker night times
* Disguise kits are now craftable by tailors and usable by all except undead
* You can only dismember a permadead character
* Polearms now have a range of 2 tiles
* Bandages now have a range of 2 tiles
* More weapons are now throwable - just double click and fling!
* Damage to and from other players should be more reasonable

P.S. A huge thank you to Black Tom a.k.a Nathaniel Vane, who was instrumental in helping to planning and testing these features. Our daily brainstorm was a pleasure.

Hi all,

I had taken a lot of screenshots of the Samuel Baker execution. Looking at the folder, I found I was putting off sorting them, because I didn't want to spend the time faffing about in Photoshop condensing them into one or more of those tiled images to post. So, I threw together a little script to do it for me.

It's a work in progress, but I figured others might want to make use of it (if you can all figure out how to install Python/PIL to run the darn thing).

The project itself: https://github.com/jsrn/Collage.py
Related post for those interested in the technical musings (also a work in progress): http://jsrn.github.io/programming/2013/06/12/collagepy/

Two example reports generated with Collage.py so far:

Samuel Baker Gets Smote

Wall Repairs

All you have to do after installing Python/PIL is put your cropped screenshots in a folder called "images" in the same folder as Collage.py and then run Collage.py on the command line. Feel free to ask over Steam/ICQ if you need assistance. smile

Enjoy!

By popular demand, I have introduced bee hives. They're located on the road headed south out of Blackwell, and can be double clicked once every 30 seconds for a pot of honey.

Try not to derail the village economy with a flood of honey!

Hello all,

In response to the comments about the lack of flour for cooks, we've implemented a temporary(?) measure until a better solution can be found to crop farming. As you will see, there is a mill just outside the northern wall of Blackwell.

wheatsupply.png

Every Monday, this mill will receive a ration of flour between 10 and 100 bags. This number is subject to tweaking, but is designed to encourage scarcity and sharing of resources. Had a bad harvest? Pool together to get enough food for all!

As far as I'm concerned, what happens to the flour after it appears in the mill is an IC concern. Please do not make it an OOC concern by being irresponsible and stealing the entire stash every week, unless you're willing to accept the undoubtedly dire IC consequences of being the pillock who keeps stealing the entire town's food supply.

I hope this helps those of you who've gone with cooking skills to get off the ground!

Use soda to tame bees. Use bees to bend teachers to your will. Escalate until you're the bee-covered head of the teachers union. Hold country's education hostage. Profit.

Disclaimer: I don't expect this to be used. It's rough around the edges, strictly optional, and using it frequently will probably get your character killed in the first fight they lose.

I got a bit bored and made a random injury generator! Just plug in the number of wounds of each type that you want, and hit the button.
